Trumping the Avengers

Warning: Possible Infinity War spoilers-

Smashing the box office record Avengers: infinity wars opened in cinemas a few days ago beating the previous record of Star Wars: The force awakens. Critics and fans had plenty to say about the famous superheroes. What is worrying however, is not that the movie killed off half the avengers but, another villain in the real world may be emerging. And in the real world the person responsible to do "great things for the world" may need a lot more training to match the avengers.

So who is the VILLAIN?

The person that is starring as the evil villain here is none other than the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. He has all the characteristics of a villain like- being proud, having an eventual goal (to unite the koreas), being vengeful (for the Korean War) and being backed by an army with nuclear weapons. He has also convinced himself and many others that he is the "good guy" and any actions he might take (things that may confirm his place as the villain, like- Nuking a country) are justified. North Korea's nuclear proliferation in the past has always angered and worried many. But, now when the regime says that it has officially become a "Nuclear State" with the ability to throw bombs at any country in the world, some action is required. What the world needs is a superhero! (check out this article for more information on North Korea, it's evil plans, and the international community)

And the SUPERHERO?

Sadly we don't have the avengers (or any close match) in the real world. But, one person thinks that he is up to the job and has committed to do "great things for the world". That one person is the current president of the US "Donald Trump". Don't laugh. No seriously, don't laugh. He may not have (majority) of the qualities of a superhero (including trusted sidekicks since, he fired most of them) but, he has nominated himself (with the power vested to him by his tweets), as the only person that can help-

PLOT TWIST-

For a second, if we assume that Donald Trump is our superhero and Kim Jong Un the villain then, following in the footsteps of the Avengers there must be a plot twist. The plot twist came sooner than expected, North Korea sent a team to the winter olympics happening in South Korea. The significance of this step cannot be more understated. This was one of the first action taken by the regime to show a sign of friendship to the international community. Kim Jong Un sent his sister and a giant delegation, consisting of athletes and smiling cheerleaders to PyeongChang. This started a chain of events that made many question Kim Jong Un's role of a villain. High level officials met from the both Korea's and then Kim Jong Un took the historic step into the South. He became the first ruling leader of North Korea to cross the line dividing the demilitarized zone to meet with South Korean President Moon Jae-in. This is being described as a historic summit.

Mortal enemies to best friends?

Now, finally both sides have confirmed that President Donald Trump will be meeting with Kim Jong Un sometime soon. The South has confirmed that the meeting will be talking about North Korea's "permanent denuclearization". The North showed another sign by pausing all nuclear and missile tests. Perhaps, this is the kind of scenario in which the villain negotiates a peace deal? Not so fast, Hollywood has taught us plenty of times, that playing nice is something many villains do before the final attack. So could this be an act of deceit?

What to expect of North Korea?

Whether recent developments are a phony act or real progress is not that hard to determine. One thing that should be noted is that this scenario may ring a bell to many who have been looking at politics for a while. Earlier North Korea created an international crisis by promising to turn South Korea into a "sea of fire". Tensions built until the United States was on the brink of a conflict as it seriously considered taking military action. Suddenly North korea said that it will negotiate a denuclearization with both countries as an "equal". The diplomacy lead to nothing much and North Korea came back on track with its nuclear programme.

This is not the only example of such a scenario. So, who is to say that something similar could not happen again. It is possible (and quite likely) that the northern regime is trying to buy time or earn some trust or sympathy until it can stand on its two feet again.

How will the meeting go?

Many have already questioned Donald Trump's so called title as the"best deal maker". However, analyzing the circumstances that Donald Trump is in, from many south koreans falling head over heels for Kim Jong Un and North Korea going as far as changing it's time zone to represent a unified Korea, chances of a successful meeting are ranging from 1-2% at max. This is considering that a "successful meeting" means that North Korea actually gives up all nuclear weapons in return for some international support and help. This has so far been impossible for many to achieve and there is no reason for Donald Trump to be any different.

Should we all get Nuclear shelters?

A nuclear war at the moment seems highly unlikely. One reason, among many others, is that even if a deal does not take place between all parties, USA and others will continue the tough sanctions that it had in place before. Also, like in the past certain gaps like these do set the regime quite back in its nuclear goals (things like shutting down nuclear tests). However, that is not to say that North Korea will be (forever) unable to attain its goals (to be powerful enough to "take over the world") . A solution for this regime is necessary, one that would be permanent and effective. The Iran nuclear deal could be a base, if it survives.
