Pg 1 - Folk of the Air Series Review

In a nutshell- If you’re looking for a dark fantasy series with a badass main lead, the perfect love hate relationship that will keep you consistently on the edge, then the folk of the air series should be right down your alley.

Full review- No book can be perfect but the folk of the air series is the closest thing to perfection you can find in a book. You will find yourself getting pulled into a world that you can’t find a way out off. The first book, Cruel Prince, starts a little slow as you meet the main characters but things quickly pick pace. The characters are imperfect in every possible way, with scars that can never be healed. The book will have you rooting for a bloodthirsty and power-hungry main lead who always operates in an extremely gray area. She makes mistakes and faces the consequences, no fairy godmother to save the day. Holly Black has created a world that is both dark and elusive, enchanting you to keep reading. Spots of humor here and there help keep you sane and it’s all tied together with a love hate relationship that will have you constantly on the edge. It’s one of the books that you can’t wait to finish but also wish never ends.

The second installment goes by the name of the Wicked King, in which we pick up right where we left off in Cruel prince. In this we see some great character development as we glimpse into their deepest desires and obsessions, while morality leaves the chat. There is betrayal and there is the constant hunger for power, with some confused love feelings sprinkled in for good measure. You question everything that you’ve already read each time you turn the page. We get more insight into characters that were introduced in the first book but didn’t get enough page time. It’s a huge roller coaster dark fantasy ride that throws you off a cliff in the end. This book is probably the reason that cliffhangers should be illegal. Once you read the last page, you’ll have the urge to throw the book across the room, set it on fire and then immediately buy another copy so that you can re-read it with a, err, fresher perspective. Now, that I’m done raving about the books I suppose it doesn’t hurt to take a look at the minor downsides. You’ll have to wait until November to read book three. End of list. Although, you could always read the Novella, The Lost Sister to bide the time.
